Gibran's poetical writings deal with spiritual love and mysticism with influences from Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Theosophy.

Kahlil Gibran, born into a Maronite Catholic family in Lebanon, emigrated to Boston with his mother and siblings.
After schooling in the USA, he returned to pursue his education in Lebanese and Arabic culture in Beirut.
On his return to the USA his mother and two siblings soon died, and he was supported by literary and artistic friends who nurtured his talents as a writer and artist.
Beginning in Arabic, Gibran's published works were later mainly written in English.
Gibran was also an accomplished artist, but is most notable for his writings which became very popular during the 1960's.
