Paul White was born in Bowral, New South Wales. After studying medicine at the University of Sydney, he married and travelled to Tanganyika as a Church Missionary Society (CMS) missionary in 1938, and established a hospital whichbecame the main medical centre of the mission. On his return to Australia he began writing fictional stories based on his experiences in Africa. They often include evangelical Christian moralising.
